Watercolor Samurai

The land of the rising sun. For this image I decided to step way out of my comfort zone. When I saw the theme of the CG Boost Samurai Challenge I immediately thought watercolor. The only problem was that I had no idea how to get a good looking watercolor effect using Blender and Eevee. A few tutorials, a lot of experimentation in compositing and some research on the water color style later, and I finally achieved a look that I really like for this render.
Getting the composition right for this render was also a huge pain in the neck! Sometimes the lighting would work well for one object but three others would look completely blown out or way under lit. So then I'd add or subtract some lights and then some others would be blown out or under lit. Getting all of the objects in their final place while being well lit and still retain the watercolor effect was a challenge, but overall I am very happy with how it came out.
The first image is the final render in Blender Eevee. The second is a real watercolor that my wife painted. The third is the original concept art that was made in autodesk sketchbook, and the forth is a clay render in blender.
